OUR OFFER IN COMPROMISE CLIENTS RESIDE IN ALL 50 STATES

I started U.S. Tax Resolution as a means of helping people with tax problems so severe that settlement by any means other than an Offer in Compromise would be impossible.  Since I began my CPA career back in 1982, I have talked to thousands of such people.  In many cases, a serious Health problem was to blame.  In some cases, the loss of a Business was to blame.  Oftentimes, a Career setback was to blame.  Sometimes, catastrophic  Investment losses were to blame.  Regardless of cause, it is important to understand that the Government has the power and the will to collect from those who choose not to address a tax problem.  That is why it is always better to seize the initiative in such a situation by addressing the feasibility of an Offer in Compromise settlement (rather that letting the Government garnish wages, levy bank accounts and seize property).

If a person were in a situation where they could not pay their taxes and if that person received a threatening notice from I.R.S. Collections, what would be the wisest course of action?  Should that person attempt an Offer in Compromise without any help?  Should that person turn to a salesman without tax credentials who claims to know how to fill out some relevant forms?  Should he or she turn to a tax professional who has never done an Offer in Compromise before?  Should he or she turn to a person who was once employed by the I.R.S.?  We advise taxpayers in such a situation to seek out a Tax Resolution Firm such as ours where one or more CPA's who specialize in the Offer in Compromise procedure can assist them.  A CPA who specializes in tax resolution work can calculate in a matter of minutes whether a person has the potential to benefit from an Offer in Compromise procedure.  A CPA can also plan your Offer in Compromise so that the settlement you offer the Government will be the best one for your financial situation.  If a prospective Client is under criminal prosecution, we refer them to several Law Firms that specialize in the Offer in Compromise procedure (and they typically charge three to four times our Fee and are not necessarily as adept at numbers crunching).  CPA/Client privilege encompasses Tax matters and such discussions do not need to be disclosed even in a Court of Law.  Attorney/Client privilege encompasses all discussed matters.  For those not under criminal prosecution, "trust the CPA" (the motto of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) definitely applies.  In our opinion,  to have the best probability of success in an Offer in Compromise negotiation, your representative should be either a licensed CPA or licensed Attorney  specializing in the Offer in Compromise procedure.  Moreover, the licensed CPA or licensed Attorney should be the only one handling your case (as opposed to supervised members of their staff).
